Gary Levinson
GARY LEVINSON became Artistic Director for the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth in the spring of 2013.
Gary Levinson was chosen by Zubin Mehta to join the New York Philharmonic before the completion of his Juilliard School undergraduate degree in 1988. He made his New York Philharmonic solo debut in 1991, under the baton of Erich Leinsdorf, coinciding with the completion of his Master’s of Music degree at the Juilliard School, where his teachers included Dorothy DeLay, Glenn Dicterow and Felix Galimir.
As a soloist, Mr. Levinson has collaborated with Erich Leinsdorf, Jaap van Zweden, Miguel Harth-Bedoya and others. Much sought-after as a chamber musician, Mr. Levinson has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Eugenia Zukerman, Lukas Foss, Carter Brey, Christopher O’Riley and Adam Neiman. A champion of contemporary music, Mr. Levinson premiered and recorded several works dedicated to him by award-winning Iranian composer, Behzad Ranjbaran. He recorded the Margaret Brouwer Violin Concerto under the baton of 2012 Musical America’s Conductor of the Year, Jaap van Zweden. He has performed many chamber works of George Tsontakis, with a recording released under the E1International label. The complete Beethoven Violin and Piano Sonatas with acclaimed pianist Daredjan Baya Kakouberi were released in August 2011, and the Vivaldi Four Seasons and the Brouwer Violin Concerto recordings were released in 2013.
Upon assuming the post of Artistic Director, Levinson said, “I am deeply honored to accept the position of Artistic Director for the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth. Having been a long-time admirer of the series, I’ve always known it to be a phenomenal organization with a great venue to make chamber music. In this coming year I look forward to presenting a diverse, compelling set of programs which will reflect not only great repertoire, but my commitment to reaching out to the community.”
Upon accepting a three-year extension to his CMSFW contract, Artistic Director Gary Levinson said, “I can’t be happier to have the security of a multi-year commitment to build on the success of the past season. As I work on a 24-36 month calendar, the three-year contract ensures stability within our organization, our relationships with our donors and patrons, and a unified message of uncompromising quality with programming and artists that has been the calling card of CMSFW for 29 banner seasons.” Email Gary:
